I noticed people make common mistakes when building their websites or blogs. A lot of times it’s attributed to inexperience. So I’m going to and give you guys an F.Y.I. that way you will be ahead of the learning curb. I too made a few of these mistakes at one time or another, a bit of insight will help save you guys lots of wasted time and effort. Remember your website or blogs name needs to maintain it credibility. If you follow these helpful tips you will build a strong foundation for you online endeavour.
- Free Hosting. Hosting your site or blog for free is a common mistake people make. Free hosting destorys your credibility, and are their plastered by ugly ads.
- Registering a difficult to remember domain. Make sure to register a domain that is easy for others to remember. Preferably something short, quick, easy, and rolls off the tongue.

Bad Niche. Make sure you pick a niche with demand. Don’t make the mistake of picking something that no one but you will want to read.

Bad or not user friendly design. A bad design will not only keep people away from your site, but keep you from making any real money. Check out some successful competitors in your niche to get some design ideas. If you got a blog install a theme where ads are in visible areas, yet it creates user friendly navigation.

Poor font visibility. Keep your fonts easy to read. Don’t blend it with the background. A white background and light grey font will not provide the eyes enough contrast to read the content properly.

Bad content. Keep your content fresh. If you can write articles that are timeless even better. Sometimes we are tempted to take the lazy way out and slap something together quickly, or worse take it directly from another website. Write meaningful originalcontent and stay within the parameters of your niche. Remember you must write for your audience, NOT YOURSELF. So keep the information useful.

No means of contact. Make sure you add a contact form. People need to be able to communicate with you. Do a Google search for “contact form” copy & paste the code, easy.
- Too many ads. Putting too much ads will hurt your brand name and credibility. I know how tempting it can be to put ads all over the place, but keep it tasteful.
- No means of subscription. I can’t begin to express the importance of a subscription to your website or blog. Visitors should never be forced to subscribe, but a visible RSS feed, email or newsletter subscription button is very important. Having your visitors sign up to a feed will build loyalty to your site.
- Getting desperate. People often loose interest after a few months when they get no results. It takes time to become successful. So do not lose interest. Perseverance is the key to success.
- Trying to make money too soon. Often people concentrate on making money instead of quality content. It’s important to build loyalty first.
- (For Bloggers only) Erratic posting. Posting frequently will help build a subscription base. When bloggers stop posting people in your community will stop visiting you.
- Not enough diversity. Sometime people put all their eggs in one basket and do not diversify their site.
- Not being an active members of the community. With any business it’s important to build contacts. So go do some social networking, email marketing, and get the word out.
- Lack of result tracking.Folks it’s important to track results. Whether it’s pay-per-click, AdSense, or simply page visits. Track your results. It will give you insight to what your audience is demanding. Learn how to use your tools and experiment with your results. All successful businesses do this. So why shouldn’t you.
Success in the Internet is not an exact science. Practice makes perfect and your dedication will bring you a long way. Don’t give up, avoid these mistakes. Research and learn, and most important experiment. Staying ahead of the curb will keep you successful so don’t be afraid to try new things.
